Sicily
Discovering the archaeological and historical
heritage in Sicily
Originally, this was planned as C2 for May 2020. However, due to the outbreak of the pandemics, it was postponed to October 2021. The postponement led to changes necessary to stick to the project's objectives. Several activities couldn’t be realized and they were replaced by the visit to Taormina, the local Theatre, etc. A lot of the originally planned activities took place according to the original preparation. Despite many regulations because of the pandemics, 4 students from each participating country could participate. Description of the activities: Monday: Welcome Ceremony. The first presentations of each country. The ceremony included music performances by host students. After that, the participants could compare their schools and school systems of their countries when learning about the hosting school (visit to the building, classes – hosting students as guides). A visit to the Town Hall and a speech by the cultural representative of the town. In the afternoon a tour of Barcellona PG was guided by the host participants. Tuesday: A day trip to Taormina. Here the project participants experienced the cultural heritage of Sicily – they visited 2 Greek theatres and enjoyed the architecture of the ancient town. They gathered material for the Guide. Wednesday: A day at school. The student participants learned the culture of their peers in Sicily by experiencing the morning in their lessons. The presentation of each country’s cultural heritage followed. Thursday: A day trip to Tindari. Here the participants learned about the cultural and natural heritage of Sicily by visiting the local amphitheatre, the monumental ruins of a Roman spa and various parts of the town. The visit to the Sanctuary of Tindari followed, accompanied by the guidance of the host students. The participants gathered material for the products of the project. Friday: A visit to the Barcellona PG theatre. A closing ceremony at the school with traditional dance, a quiz about gathered knowledge of Sicilian cultural and natural heritage. The final part was the questionnaire measuring the impact of the activities. Certificates and farewell speeches. After the „theoretical“ part of the work on the project in the first two years of the project, the Italian LTTA was another meeting with the culture and nature of the host country in reality. The majority of the activities were conducted by the Erasmus+ team of teachers and the participating students. In some activities, other teachers of the hosting school were involved. Some guides and presenters came from the organizations who provided the activities. The LTTA was an important event at the school. The staff were involved in the ceremonies where they stressed their interest in strengthening international cooperation. The school pupils attended some activities (e.g. the Welcome Ceremony) or even participated in them.
