MOTIVATING OUR CONSCIOUSNESS BY
EXPLORING THE CRETAN TRADITION AND
NATURAL HERITAGE
Originally, this activity was planned as the first LTTA for March 2020. However, due to the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemics, it was postponed several times (not only because of the Covid-19 pandemics but also because of the earthquake in Crete in November 2021) until it finally took place in February 2022. The postponement of the LTTA was naturally not the only change that had to be done to stick to the project's objectives. Thus, the visit to Venetian Walls, the visit to Spinalonga and the international music workshop couldn’t be realised and they were replaced by the visit to the Creta Aquarium and Rethymno city and activities in the host school. Otherwise, all the activities that had been originally planned took place according to the original preparation. Even if there were many necessary arrangements because of the pandemics, 4 students from each participating country could participate along with their host students. Description of the activities: Monday: Teams gathered in the hosting school for the Welcome Ceremony. Presentations of each country prepared by the student participants - the main topic was music and dances. The ceremony included music performances of hosting students. Lessons at school (Mathematics, Literature, Traditional Cretan dancing) Tuesday: Centre of Environmental Education of Archanes with a seminar and workshop on the biodiversity of the region. Wednesday: Knossos Palace (guided tour with students as guides). Natural History Museum of Heraklion (guided tour) and Heraklion city centre. Here the project participants experienced the cultural heritage of Greece and enjoyed the famous archaeological site and studied the nature of Crete. They gathered material for the Guide (one of the project products). Traditional music and dancing and homemade food was the main topic of the evening ceremony. Thursday: Creta Aquarium (guided tour) and Rethymno city (tour and free time at Rethymno old town) where the participants studied the sea life of Crete and ancient Cretan architecture and gathered material for the products of the project. Friday: Kazantzakis Museum - another touch of Cretan cultural heritage was studied. A closing ceremony followed with traditional dance, a quiz about gathered knowledge and a questionnaire measuring the impact of the LTTA. The majority of the activities were conducted by the Erasmus+ team of teachers cooperating in this project and the participating students. In some activities, other teachers of the hosting schools were involved. Some guides and presenters came from the organizations that provided the activities (e.g. Archanes Ecological Centre). The LTTA was an important event at the school. The headmaster and the deputies were involved in the ceremonies where they stressed their interest in strengthening international cooperation. The school pupils saw the posters, Erasmus Corners and attended some activities (e.g. the Welcome Ceremony) or even participated in them (e.g. dances, music).
